Social Media Impacts on Individuals and Society will be explored through an event sponsored by Truth Has a Voice Foundation, Central Colorado Humanists and Colorado Mountain College. The civic event at the Salida SteamPlant Event Center is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21.

The joint in-person and virtual event will feature a showing of The Social Dilemma documentary film about the founding and early growth of Facebook. This will be followed by a panel discussion to focus on the local impacts of social media from the perspectives of youth, mental health, and societal concerns.

We live in a changing world in which technology is playing an ever more prominent role. It behooves all residents to better understand the impact of social media on the public’s trust in news, government, and society in general, as well as the targeted business model behind social media strategies.

Register at the SteamPlant website for a free ticket to this Oct. 21 event. You can either attend in person or watch the documentary on Netflix prior to that date, then join in for the panel portion.
