The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) is taking part in Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Week. CRR Week 2023 kicks off today, Monday, January 16, 2023 on Martin Luther King Day, which also happens to be called our National Day of Service. The CRR week runs through Sunday, January 22.

CRR Week is a grass-roots effort by an informal group of fire safety professionals from across the nation. The goal of CRR is to reduce the occurrence and impact of emergency events for both community members and emergency responders.

The program focuses on what the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control is calling “the 5E’s”: Education, engineering, enforcement, economic incentives and emergency response.

With the threat of wildfire a growing concern across the drought-stricken mountain west, the event and the timing couldn’t be more important than it is right now.

The idea is to help promote the awareness of CRR within the fire service by having a week where everyone can do CRR programs and demonstrate its importance to the fire service.

Readers can follow CRR on social media via YouTube, Facebook and Twitter @CRRweek and learn more about activities in our region at crrweek.org
