A blaze began early Sunday evening, Oct. 27, at a cabin at Frontier Ranch, located at 22150 CR 322, Buena Vista, burning it to the ground. The camp, part of the Young Life Camp organization, sits in a wooded notch just below the eastern edge of the Chalk Cliffs in Chalk Creek Canyon, at the base of Mt. Princeton.

In a conversation with Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze, around 9 p.m. Sunday, he confirmed that Chaffee firefighters were on the scene. Although he declined to issue a formal statement, he said that it looked as if the cabin was a total loss. Both the fire and the emergency response were visible from CR 162 below the scene.

While the sheriff offered no official statement related to the cause of the fire Sunday evening, he said he was confident that the situation on the ground was secure and there were no trees close to the structure. Snow moved into the area late Sunday evening, dropping several inches overnight, extinguishing the remains of the fire.

Calls to Frontier Ranch on Monday went unanswered.
