On Friday, March 13, the first victim in Colorado to succumb to the coronavirus known as COVD-19 has died. The unidentified woman in her 80s, lived in El Paso County and is reported to have had underlying health conditions. The announcement was made by the Colorado Department of Health.

“I am deeply saddened to learn that we lost a Coloradan to a case of COVID-19 today,” read a statement from Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet. “Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and community.”

Bennet went on to reassure Coloradans saying, “In the midst of this public health crisis, I know Coloradans are up to the task of supporting each other and taking the necessary precautions to protect our most vulnerable. I will continue working with Governor Polis, the Colorado Congressional delegation, and our local partners to ensure that we are doing everything we can to combat the coronavirus and keep Coloradans safe.”
