It was a star-spangled evening in Salida, July 4, as the fireworks display over Tenderfoot Mountain at dusk lit up the night sky. The annual tradition can be seen all over the city, and generations of families have their favorite spots to watch the display.

Whether or not there would be fireworks in the City of Salida for the 4th of July was an open question until less than a week before the holiday.

The decision originally had to do with drought conditions and the possibility of wildfires, not the nation’s struggle with the coronavirus known as COVID-19. But in the end, the City and the Salida Fire Dept. decided that Chaffee County and the city most enjoyed regular fireworks, and set about making that happen.
