The Salida Galleries will be hosting First Friday Art Walks beginning this evening, May 6, and continuing from May through October, 2022. The return of this summer event is a favorite for locals and tourists alike, providing a chance to see what is fresh off the easel, or artist’s bench.

Galleries will be open late for extended hours (until 8:00 or 9:00 p.m.)  on the first Friday of the month. Visitors can pick up a free Gallery Guide at downtown galleries or at the Salida SteamPlant.

The Salida downtown is one of the first two Colorado Creative Districts — and Salida’s distinct creative character is enhanced by what is known as the Downtown Historic District, which is one of the largest in Colorado. It was registered as a National Historic District in 1984. It is filled with dining spots, live music, and art galleries.

According to a study by the National Endowment for the Arts, Colorado ranks number one in the percentage of residents who personally perform in or create artworks. Beginning tonight and the first Friday of each month this summer, the galleries invite locals and visitors to make this thriving creative district a frequent stop for the First Friday Art Walks and all summer long.
