There are only four days left in the Ark Valley Voice NewsMatch Challenge and we still have $1,200 to go.

Ark Valley Voice (AVV) became a nonprofit news organization in August, 2022. If we can raise $15,000 in community donations by December 31, the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) will match it; effectively doubling every donation made by our friends and readers. All of it goes to support our working journalists.

AVV can report that we are getting closer to our NewsMatch goal: as of this morning, we stand at $13,831.56 in donations — we are 92.2 percent of the way there!  So close — yet we still have a little more than $1,200 to go.

If you think back over this past year, Ark Valley Voice has reported on many important news stories.

Recall our coverage of the ongoing January 6 committee investigations, the municipalities’ ongoing struggles over workforce housing, the first of several sex assault trials, the county’s handling not just of major development projects, but the issues over short-term rentals and “hip camps,” as well as the updating of the land use code.

We have covered the attempts to normalize extremism, shared the mental health challenges faced by residents as we work our way out of the COVID-19 pandemic, and drawn public scrutiny to the Heart of the Rockies Medical Center boiler problems and their TABOR issues.

AVV has dived into the state’s drought and water crisis and written about the attempts by Front Range metro areas to get a straw into the San Luis Valley aquifer. We brought the Russian attack on Ukraine home to its impact on our American lives and our collective role in defending democracy. We discussed the many issues surrounding the concept for the reactivation of the Tennessee Pass rail line and most recently, AVV has shed light on what appears to be growing anti-local government sentiment from an element of Salida residents.

That was 2022. Just think about what is ahead for 2023.

If this news coverage mattered to you, we hope you will consider supporting the AVV mission to give truth a voice. Just follow the DONATE button on this page to make a 100 tax-deductible donation.
