For the past several months, the Salida Business Alliance has been hard at work preparing fun and safe activities for this year’s Independence Day celebration. After last year’s pandemic cancellations, the city appears ready for some fun.

The events will be held in Riverside Park and are free to everyone on a first-come, first-served basis. Capacity in the fenced area will be capped at 1,200 people.

Below is the schedule for July 4:

  • Chalk Art: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Freedom Singers: 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

  • Bike Light Parade: 9:00 p.m.
  • Fireworks: 9:30 p.m.

According to the organizers, chalk will be provided for the Chalk Art event. No registration is required.

Bike Light Parade participants will meet at the Caboose at the end of F Street and the ride starts at 9:00 p.m. with costumes and lights encouraged.

While the city has organized evening fireworks, as always, fireworks are weather-dependent. Currently, organizers are anticipating the fireworks show. However, that decision is subject to change based on weather and fire danger the week of the event.

As a general reminder, Spiral Drive on Tenderfoot Mountain will be closed at the gate to all traffic, including vehicles, bikes, and walking, on July 4. Biking trails crossing Spiral Drive on Tenderfoot will also be closed to ensure the safety of all involved. The fireworks will commence on Sunday, July 4 at approximately 9:30 p.m. Individuals that are sensitive to loud noises, or that have pets, should prepare accordingly.

Salida Fire thanks all in advance for their consideration and patience with closures, and support of Independence Day fireworks.
