The Salida Parks, Recreation, Open Space & Trails (PROST) Master Plan public gatherings continue with a fourth meeting. The next public meeting will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the SteamPlant Ballroom in Salida.

The PROST Master Plan Gathering will be information-based, updating the gathering on the information that has been collected from across the community over the past six months. Topics will include PROST master plan updates, offering opportunities to review the Centennial & Marvin Park concept plans. The public will have chance to ask questions, which will assist the Parks & Recreation Department as it charts its operational course for the next few years.

President & CEO of 110 Percent Jamie Sabbach and Parks and Recreation Director Mike “Diesel” Post sat down with Ark Valley Voice to share the importance of community attendance in the PROST planning.

Sabbach explained what the fourth public gathering will entail, “For this public gathering the agenda will be kept quite simple. It will be an update on what has been happening this far. We will show the plans for Centennial and Marvin Parks and hopefully be able to show some maps. We will also be facilitating the survey.”

Sabbach discussed the efforts that they have made to reach out to the community. “There have been a lot of different tentacles in community engagement,” said Sabbach, adding that in addition to the public gatherings, focus groups have in large played a major role on Master Plan feedback.

“The more I am learning about my role, the more I am seeing the implications of this plan on so many plans [in other organizations],” said Post.

Post continued, “It’s a mesh of everything. Every decision and every initiative is a part of the conversation. It’s a lot about how people here [in Salida], identify themselves. Whether that is being out in our parks, or staring at the mountains, which are awesome.”
