Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center’s Wellness U is offering a four-week group cooking course for those with diabetes beginning Tuesday, Jan. 29. The class will provide meal suggestions and highlight healthy eating habits that can help diabetes sufferers to control their blood sugar, manage their medication use as well as provide tips for lifelong diabetes management.

HRRMC says that this free program is designed for people who have been diagnosed with diabetes. Those with diabetes often struggle with how to control their blood sugar and cooking for someone with diabetes can be a challenge. So HRRMC will make one-on-one consultations available, and family members are welcome to attend the classes .

Classes will be held Tuesdays, from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. From Jan. 29 to Feb. 26, with no class on Feb. 12, in the hospital’s second-floor conference rooms, 1000 Rush Dr., Salida. While the classes are free, HRRMC suggests a one-time $25 donation for those able to afford it.

HRRMC says the class is not limited to Chaffee County; residents of Park, Fremont, Lake, Custer, or Lake counties are welcome to register. This first course will be capped at 12 participants, but HRRMC will create a waiting list for future diabetes cooking classes.
