There’s a reason we call autumn “fall”; because that’s what leaves do and at this time of year, yards can get covered with them. With fall here a free leaf drop and compost party has been arranged for November 12.

Elements Mountain Compost and GARNA sponsor Compost Party

Not only is this a great opportunity to keep your leaves out of the landfill, it’s an opportunity for Elements Mountain Compost to introduce Chaffee County residents to their new location at 9245 CR 140, across from the Salida Airport.

The event is sponsored by Elements Mountain Compost, with coordination assistance from Greater Arkansas River Nature Association (GARNA). The free drop-off of leaves and yard waste will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12.

Keeping leaves and yard waste out of the county landfill has an environmental purpose. These materials as they decompose create methane gas, which contributes to global warming. The longer the current landfill lasts, and the less methane-producing materials go into it — the better for Chaffee County residents.

“Bring your compostable items and stay for facility tours, snacks, and fun activities,” invites Elements Mountain Compost Owner/Operator Julie Mach. Additional questions call Mach at 719-966-SOIL.
