Local Salida youth Ulysses Jarvis has been nominated by his Crest Academy teacher Samantha Bahn for his good grades and leadership ability, to attend a youth leadership conference this summer in Washington D.C. The conference is July 16-21.

The program is part of WorldStrides’ portfolio of educational travel and experiential learning programs. Envision by WorldStrides offers immersive career exploration and leadership development opportunities for individuals. Since 1985, these programs have inspired more than 800,000 students to pursue their passion and test-drive a career.

A fund drive has been started to raise the $2,495 cost for Jarvis to attend: https://www.freefunder.com/campaign/lets-get-ulysses-to-dc

According to Jennifer Dempsey, who set up the social media fund effort, the fund drive has already raised some$1,100 of the total cost, thanks to some individual donations and the audience of the “Mother Jones” theatrical production.

For more information about the youth conference, follow this link. All funds raised here will go toward covering the remaining balance of the conference ($1,395) and the cost of his return flight from Denver to D.C. ($495)

“Let’s pool our pennies so Ulysses can participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Dempsey.
