With the first day of spring just behind us, now is the time to start planning and prepping your garden. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many who had never gardened before took up the hobby as a way to pass the time during the lockdown. Though things are slowly beginning to open up more, gardens are a vital way to improve the overall health of the planet and yourself.

Green America and their Climate Victory Garden (CVG) community, say they have made it easy for gardeners of all levels to get back into the soil with a helpful four-step video. CVG believes that anyone can garden for the planet, whether you live in a high-rise apartment or on acres of rural land.

This short video will get you started with the basics of where, what, and how to plant and care for a new garden with an emphasis on soil heath and carbon sequestration.

The four steps are the following:

  • Start small
  • Grow what you love to eat
  • Plant and care for your garden
  • Protect your soil

Climate Victory Gardeners say their role is to harness the power of plants and natural processes to pull carbon from the air and capture it in the soil where it belongs.

To join in the movement, add your garden to the map. CVG believes that gardens can move the dial on the climate crisis as well as support physical, and mental health. Gardens also support healthy local environments and reinforces food security in your community.
