Thursday afternoon, High Country Bank (HCB) announced a $1,000 match donation to the Ark Valley Voice (AVV) Christmas in July Giving Campaign. The campaign goal is to raise $10,000, all of it to be dedicated to the wages of our working journalists.

Ark Valley Voice will receive this $1,000 donation from HCB if we can raise another $1,000 in matching donations from the community.

Up to this point, donations to the campaign have reached $6,300. Ark Valley Voice is grateful for every person and business who has donated to ensure that truth has a voice; we just reached our current level due to a generous $500 match challenge from Poncha Market.

This year, especially, we need your support. Like so many businesses during the pandemic, we worked for months from our home offices, on Zoom, and for several months for no pay.

During that time we authored more than 2,000 news stories, publishing six days a week to keep you informed on the critical news that affected all our lives.

We did this because we believe in our mission, that truth should have a voice, and we believe that as news media, we play a role in protecting our democracy.

While other businesses have come roaring back, news advertising has not. Our advertising revenue is down considerably. As a free publication, we depend on advertising and donations to keep the lights on and the journalists paid. In fact, 98 percent of our income goes to the wages of working journalists.

If you have benefited from even a single one of our news stories – learned something you didn’t know or got alerted to an issue you care about, we hope you will consider a donation to help us meet this match: https://arkvalleyvoice.com/support-quality-local-journalism/

You can even stop by our table on First and F  St. Friday (see the invite above) to let us say thank you and offer you a free beer donated by Elevation Brewery.

Even if you have never donated to anything before, this might be the time to show your support for AVV — and for democracy. Thank you.
