Due to the increase in COVID-19 infections recently in Chaffee County, Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) is banning visitors from the hospital and the emergency department.

The latest Chaffee County Public Health (CCPH) report Wednesday, Oct. 7 showed a continuation of recent surges, with eight cases reported over the past two days.

In addition, the City of Salida had the following announcement:
“Andrea Carlstrom, Chaffee Public Health Director, said positive cases include “one student and one staff member at this time” in reference to the Salida School District. All Salida School District schools will remain closed and on a remote learning schedule for the duration of the week. The Salida Montessori Charter School remains open at this time.”

The HRRMC announcement read in part:

“As part of its continued effort to protect the safety of patients, visitors, and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center is introducing additional precautionary measures. The following changes are in effect as of Wednesday, October 7.

Due to a community increase in COVID-19 cases, HRRMC is temporarily disallowing visitors into the hospital and emergency department. Patients will be admitted regularly, but we ask all visitors to refrain from entering at this time.

Staff remain at all entrances to the hospital. They will ask anyone who wishes to enter any HRRMC facility—including the clinics—several medical questions based on the most recent guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This screening ensures that qualifying individuals without respiratory symptoms are able to enter the buildings and those experiencing respiratory symptoms are helped accordingly.

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, more changes may occur. Please check HRRMC.com for the latest updates or call 719-530-2217.”
