Those local students who desire to pursue a career in medicine should be aware that the following scholarship awards are available through the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center Foundation and the application deadlines are coming up in June.

Charles J. Forster Scholarships

Two scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded to individuals who live or have lived within the Salida Hospital District (Chaffee, western Fremont and northern Saguache counties), or within the Westcliffe or Saguache school districts.

Applicants will attend college in fall 2023 with a degree in a healthcare field and have a 3.2 college GPA and 24 credit hours. The application deadline is June 12.

Annie Little Memorial Scholarship

A scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded each year to a Buena Vista High School graduate who has attended one or more years in an accredited post-high school institution. This graduate must be currently enrolled in a course/courses leading to a degree or diploma in the healthcare field.

Previous applicants meeting eligibility requirements may apply each year. The application deadline is  June 12.

Career Advancement Scholarships

EMT/Paramedic or CNA to RN/RN-BSN Scholarship

For individuals who are currently certified EMTs/paramedics or Certified Nurse Assistants (CNA) with either a certification or letter of completion in 2022/2023, living in the HRRMC Hospital District service area, and who will be attending college in fall 2023 to pursue an Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. The scholarship amounts awarded will be determined by the Scholarship Committee based on the number of qualified applicants and individual financial need. This application deadline is June 23, 2022.
