This Saturday, Feb. 23, Buena Vista is playing host to its inaugural wedding exposition at the Surf Hotel, located at 1012 Front Loop. With more than 32 local professionals and vendors showcasing the area’s network of services and amenities for weddings or any type of event, the BV Chamber of Commerce says those attend this free event, running from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., will get a good overview of what the area has to offer.

“Last January we concluded that we needed to host a Wedding Expo because there was so much interest; In addition, we now have more venues to host weddings,” said Jamie Billesbach, the head coordinator for this inaugural event.

As the Arkansas River Valley has grown in population and in commerce, the chamber has seen a steady growth of need for more general wedding information to be readily available. Billesbach says that over the past three years the chamber has been sought out by numerous outlets in regards to this event type in the area.

“Mt. Princeton Hot Springs is a popular venue, but has been booked out years ahead. There is also The Surf Hotel, The Barn at Sunset Ranch and the incredible remodel at the Loft Orpheum Theater,” said Billesbach. “Plus, after working on the website pages we knew we had some great photographers and support professionals, and we wanted to get the word out.”

The chamber had already put into place an informational website with tools and directory help of the local venues, photographers, deejays, car services, and florists in the area. Billesbach added that as of last year the growing interest led the chamber concluded that the need for an annual expo had become more obvious.

“We are focusing on shoulder season events for our area. This was a great one to add to showcase all that we have to offer to a growing market segment,”said Billesbach. “. BV is an amazing place to host one’s wedding. It is much more affordable than other mountain towns and It has breathtaking views, great support amenities and incredible venues.”

The chamber has promoted the event with the support of Chaffee County Visitors Bureau to various wedding websites and services throughout the state, including the Rocky Mountain Bride magazines and website, social media outlets, and with the Ute Country Times in hopes of truly capturing the convenience and availability of these resources already in place here.

The afternoon will display the vendors in the Ivy Ballroom of the Surf Hotel with DJ D.J. doing the emceeing and music while Colorado Adventure Tours offers a limousine ride to tour the Loft Orpheum Theater and The Barn at Sunset Ranch. The Heart of the Rockies Radio stations will also be in attendance to keep listeners involved with the intent to offer attendees a full immersion of what the valley has to offer.

“Weddings bring all sorts of guest to the valley to see all that we have to offer and are held throughout the year thus bringing more income in during off seasons,” said Billesbach. “We are looking forward to all of the possibilities this may bring. Since this is our first wedding expo, we are not quite sure what to expect but it is exciting to see where it unfolds. We intend to make this an annual event with more available each year.”

Couples who pre-register are entered to win prizes such as a Surf Hotel stay and Mt. Princeton Hot Spring passes, but pre-register is not required. The event is free and open to anyone considering hosting any variety of event in Buena Vista. There will be directional signage through town on Saturday to guide attendees to the location.
