The City of Salida Fire Department has announced that it will put on a full fireworks display for the 2020 Independence Day Celebration.
For those who have never experienced fireworks in Salida, they are set off from Tenderfoot mountain which towers at the end of F Street. The setting means that the fireworks display can be seen from most areas of the city. There were initial concerns over holding fireworks during the drought conditions across the central and southern Colorado Rockies, but both Salida and Buena Vista have made the decision to proceed.
Spiral Drive on Tenderfoot Mountain in Salida will be closed at the gate to all traffic including vehicles, bikers, walkers, hikers, and so on. Biking trails crossing Spiral Drive will also be closed to ensure safety.
The fireworks will commence at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. The county is still technically in the Colorado “Safer at Home” reopening phase from the coronavirus known as COVID-19. Based on that reality, the City of Salida reminds fireworks viewers and participants to follow social distancing and wear a facemask around others.
Salida Fire Department says that it gives thanks to all residents and visitors in advance for their consideration and patience with the trail and street closures and for their support of the fireworks display. For more information contact Dan Distel, Salida Fire Department at 719-539-2212
