Embracing Aging, a free conference for active seniors open to exploring and enjoying the many positive aspects of aging is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at the Chaffee County Fair Grounds. The event will feature workshops and activities, as well as dozens of table vendors featuring senior services and adding to the quality of life.
“There will be something for everyone at this event. Whether you consider yourself an active senior or not, you definitely know someone in the community who is,” said Chaffee County Public Health Director Andrea Carlstrom. “We encourage family, friends and neighbors of active older adults to attend, too!”
‘Embracing Aging’, planned for all Chaffee County seniors and their families, is a collaborative effort by Chaffee County Public Health, Ark Valley Helping Hands, Sage Generation, Chaffee County Human Services, the Upper Arkansas Area Agency on Aging and Columbine Manor. It’s ‘no charge’ status is due to the generosity of many community and regional sponsors.
“Embracing Aging is free and open to the public. There are activities and information for ages from 25 to 105,” said Ark Valley Helping Hands Volunteer Dee Dubin. “Discover new activities to enrich your experience here in Chaffee County. Plan on stopping in and spending the day with us.”
A range of workshops will be offered, including sessions related to sexual health, finding peace through the stages of life, embracing death and brain and heart health. Attendees can participate in several group activities at the conference, including tai chi, gentle and kundalini yoga, jitterbug, painting, Zumba, Qiqong, natural movement and biking.
Chaffee County Public Health is planning to offer the pneumonia vaccine for visitors who appear at their booth at the conference with their Medicare and insurance cards. The agenda includes door prize drawings throughout the day, as well as registrations for table vendor giveaway.
Food and drink vendors will be on hand providing refreshments for purchase. To make access available to more seniors, Embracing in Aging has arranged for free shuttle service. For more information, visit the fair website at www.embracingagingfair.com.
