On a light-hearted note, today, Saturday, Jan. 15 is National Bagel Day!
It’s a gorgeous sunny morning just right to enjoy a comforting bagel before setting out on a hike. What’s your favorite bagel flavor — onion, blueberry, multi-grain, cinnamon raisin, or some other exotic flavor? Do you make them toasted? Do you stack them with spinach, cheese, and sausage and take it with you?
What about toppings, are you a purist about your smear — is it cream cheese or nothing — or are you creative about your bagel accompaniments?
My personal favorite is a pumpernickel bagel with raspberry-flavored cream cheese, and I mourn the fact that I can’t seem to find classic pumpernickel bagels anywhere in Chaffee County. (If you know something I don’t, please tell the rest of us!)
