At approximately 9:49 a.m. Oct. 17, the Chaffee County Communications Center received a call of an assault involving a knife. During the conversation, the female victim related that she just had her throat cut and the suspect was still on the scene.

Chaffee County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in Poncha Springs and found the victim, a 48-year-old resident of Poncha Springs, suffering from a slash across her throat. A male, identified as Robert Dale Lane Roberts, age 26, was at the residence as well and was taken into custody.

The victim was transported to HRRMC by Chaffee County EMS and was being treated for wounds to her neck.

Roberts was transported to the Chaffee County Detention Center where he was being held on the following charges:

  • Attempted First Degree Murder, Class 2 Felony
  • Aggravated Assault, First Degree, a Class 3 Felony

Bond was set at $50,000 – Cash Only. At the time of his arrest, it was learned that Roberts is on parole from the Colorado Department of Corrections on unspecified charges.
