Lake County continues to make forward movement on the COVID-19 front as on March 17  it moved into Level Blue (cautious) and slated community vaccination events for March 31 and April 7.

Moreover, health officials here say that at some point in April there should be vaccines available to anyone wanting one.

The upcoming vaccine events, to be held at CMC Leadville, are open to the newest group that includes people age 50 and older, those with a high-risk medical condition, and a slate of essential frontline workers. The Moderna vaccine will be used, and its age limitations require that recipients are 18 and older.

The move into Level Blue means that capacities loosen to 50 percent for restaurants, group sports and camps, retail and personal services. In its latest report on March 19, Lake County Public Health Agency was monitoring 12 active cases, bringing the county’s total to 694 since the pandemic began.

Lake County continues to trend higher than most of the state with its positivity rate, which was last posted at 7.5 percent (15/201 tests in two weeks) compared to a 3.42 percent one-week overall positivity rate in Colorado.

Lisa Zwerdlinger, M.D., public health officer for LCPHA, said in her weekly COVID-19 update last week that “Colorado is holding their own” in its efforts against the virus and that Lake County continues to flatten its own curve in cases.

She said that vaccine supplies into Lake County have continued to be good and she predicted that “Sometime in April it’ll just be a free for all,” meaning vaccines should be available to anyone age 16 and older.
