The League of Women Voters of Chaffee County (LWVCC) will host a public event for Buena Vista School Board candidates. The event will take place from 6 – 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Buena Vista Community Center, 715 E. Main St.

“It’s a political party!  The LWVCC will soon conduct another Candi-Dating event, this time for Buena Vista School Board candidates,” said the LWVCC release.  After each candidate has the opportunity to make two-minute opening remarks, the process will essentially follow a speed-dating model.

This is the same model successfully used in 2016 and 2018 for Chaffee County Commissioners and House District 60 candidates in Buena Vista and Salida, as well as Buena Vista Town Government event in March of 2018.”

The Buena Vista School Board candidates that have committed to participating in the event are Stacy Moss and Nathaniel Weeks for District A; Nancy Best and Jessica Crites for a two-year At-Large seat; and Brett Mitchell and Tracy Storms for two four-year At-Large seats. Suzette Hachmann is running unopposed for District C.

Storms is an At-Large incumbent.  Best currently serves as the District C representative. The LWVCC reminds voters that the Buena Vista School District voters can vote for candidates from each district as well as At Large candidates.

The LWVCC’s mission for the past 15 years has been “to provide opportunities for local citizens to hear candidates running for office and learn about ballot issues.”  The LWVCC does not support or oppose candidates or political parties. It is a local community organization open to all persons 18 years of age and older.
