The League of Women Voters of Chaffee County (LWVCC) will host a public event for the City of Salida candidates who submitted petitions and announced their candidacy at the beginning of September. The event begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Salida Scout Hut, located at 210 E Sackett St.

Since those candidates are running unopposed, there will be no voting election, and they will be sworn in following the November election. The League of Women voters is organizing the event to allow Salida residents to get to know the incumbent city council members.

Salida mayor, council members and treasurer will each have two minutes to provide introductory remarks, followed by a “meet and greet,” to chat with their city government representatives.

The candidate-elects who will be attending are Mayor P.T. Wood, Councilwoman Jane Templeton, Councilman-elect Mike Pollock, Councilwoman-Elect Alisa Pappenfort, and Treasurer-elect Merrell Bergin.

The LWVCC’s mission for the past 15 years has been to provide opportunities for local citizens to hear candidates running for office and learn about ballot issues. The LWVCC “does not support or oppose candidates or political parties. It is a local community organization open to all persons 18 years of age and older.”
