Dear Editor:
On Aug. 23, the Chaffee County Housing Policy Advisory Committee’s (HPAC) Outreach and Education Committee sponsored a forum to give Salida voters and interested community members the opportunity to ask questions and learn about affordable housing and the Salida Crossings development project. We were fortunate to have the support of several local businesses who helped us pull off this successful event.
Thank you, Amicas Pizza and Microbrew and Moonlight Pizza, for donating enough pizza to feed the 60 people who showed up. We are grateful to Sweetie’s Sandwich Shop for providing delicious sweet treats.
HPAC was able to hand out several gift cards throughout the evening to keep things fun and light. We received donations from The Book Haven, Cafe Dawn, Howl Mercantile, Kaleidoscope Toys, Salida Bike Company, Su Casa! Furniture and Sleep Shop, and Subculture Cyclery.
Finally, a huge thanks to Seasons Cafe for letting us use their lovely patio on a perfect summer night.
Having safe, affordable and consistent housing is crucial for Chaffee County to thrive, and the above-mentioned generosity demonstrates that fostering greater housing capacity is truly a community-led effort.
Andrea Carlstrom
HPAC Member, Outreach and Education Committee
