Dear Editor:

Phil Weiser is the candidate for attorney general to vote for. His opponent’s platform is one personal attack ad after another, mocking Phil for having been a law professor and dean of the largest legal organization in the state, the University of Colorado School of Law. All this other candidate has to offer is fear and the need for protection from him as “top cop” and prosecutor. There is a lot more to the office of Attorney General than that.

The AG’s office is involved in nearly every aspect of state government and thus affects all of us. Phil knows how to run a law office and to lead and work with other attorneys. That is what the AG is supposed to do. This ability is backed up by Phil’s clerkships for two U.S. Supreme Court justices, one liberal and the other conservative. Phil also led a team of lawyers protecting consumer rights in the Anti-Trust Division of the Department of Justice.

Phil has maintained a high level of campaigning and will not attack his opponent. However, I would like to point out that his opponent thinks only of criminal law and not the multiple and serious issues facing this state. He is a prominent Trump supporter, denier of climate change and supporter of overturning Roe v. Wade. He believes common sense gun laws are unconstitutional. Phil believes otherwise.

Phil wants to practice law, not politics. Phil’s career has followed a path of public service of the highest caliber. Phil is a strong, steadfast, smart and resolute candidate; he will fulfill the obligations of the attorney general position and office on behalf of us all. I have the highest regard for this candidate and know he can handle the legal work. Can his one-issue opponent?
