The Greater Arkansas River Nature Association (GARNA) and Salida Mountain Sports are hosting an event to honor the late Jeff Lowe; a legendary alpinist who passed away in August of 2018. The showing will take place at A Church, 419 D. Street, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 18.

The night will begin with the showing of a short film detailing the ascent of Ana Dablan by Lowe, Tom Frost, and Salida local Rob Dubin. A short intermission will follow, and Metanoia will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Salida Mountain Sports, or online on the GARNA website.

Local vendors Soulcraft, Vino Salida, and Moonlight Pizza will have food and drink available for purchase.

Metanoia chronicles Lowe’s extraordinary life and mountaineering accomplishments, as well as his bout with an unknown disease that robbed him of his ability to climb.

During his life, Lowe contributed greatly to the technology and techniques used today in the climbing world. Lowe is perhaps best known by his solo ascent of the North Face of the Eiger.

Metanoia was produced by Lowe’s partner, Connie Self, and is directed by Jim Aikman. The film is narrated by best-selling author Jon Krakauer.

The event is handicap accessible and open to all who are interested. GARNA encourages all to attend. Should special assistance be required for any individual, GARNA asks the concerned party contact the GARNA office by phone at 719-539-5106 during normal business hours.
