The LowDown Brass Band is a unique representation of Chicago Music culture. The all-horn band leans heavily on dancehall and street beat rhythm, with the energy of conscious hip-hop, jazz, reggae, and soul.

“Not exactly Slipknot, but not exactly John Philip Sousa either. What it is, exactly, is AWESOME,” wrote the Chicago Sun Times.

“The term we came up with to describe our sound is ‘free brass.’ Playing off the term ‘free jazz,’ we use the term ‘free brass’” as a way to give ourselves permission to venture into new territory by setting aside the rules of traditional brass band music,” said the band in an interview with Vocalo Radio.

LowDown have been covered by Vocalo, Earmilk, Music Crowns, The Chicago Reader, and more.

According to their website, “The LowDown Brass Band is a AR Resonance-endorsed artist. All brass players play custom made mouthpieces made for them by Antonio Rapacciuolo in Italy.”
