Dear Editor:

The Salida March For Our Lives participants wish to thank the Salida Police Department for responding quickly to calls to stop harassment by several loud, speeding trucks that repeatedly drove by the 200-plus peaceful demonstrators. The drivers made threatening gestures to simulate firing handguns at the marchers. Other crude gestures were made as well.

As it became obvious that the harassment would continue, marchers made more than 10 calls to Salida Police. We were told that several officers had already been sent. The dispatcher was knowledgeable, polite and concerned about what was happening.

We saw one of the trucks get pulled over by an officer. We thank the Salida police for protecting our right to peaceably assemble and for their prompt, effective response to the threats.
