In a briefly-worded statement June 14 on his campaign Facebook page, Joel McBride withdrew from the race for Chaffee County commissioner. He expressed his regrets to friends and supporters, saying that an unexpected and “exciting opportunity in my career, which means more responsibilities and compensation,” had led him to determine he should withdraw from the campaign.
“Kids and community are priorities for me,” McBride’s message said.“I can’t take on more and, in good faith, keep up with my school-board commitments and run this campaign. I will continue to be involved in multiple efforts to keep Chaffee County the special place it is.”
He thanked supporters, saying that when he meets them on the street, he will offer a “much-deserved face-to-face thank you.” He ended with his desire “to leave this campaign with integrity and make a clean, early break so that another candidate may step forward.”
McBride officially entered the race May 22 with an announcement on his “Joel McBride for Chaffee County Commissioner” Facebook page.
