Monarch Mountain announced today that it will open for the season Friday, Nov. 16.

The early opening is good news for the resort and its patrons following a subpar 2017-18 season marred by above average temperatures and below average snowfall.

Monarch currently reports a 17-inch base with 4 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours, and the National Weather Service reports a chance of snow continuing today at the resort.

The announcement notes that the Monarch tubing park will not open Friday due to early season conditions and that the resort has extended early season-pass pricing through Friday to celebrate the early opening.

Anyone who has already purchased a season pass can pick it up from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday at the Monarch Outpost, 123 N. F St. in Salida.
