On Saturday, Feb. 15, Monarch Mountain will host a Sweetheart Race, just in time for the Valentine’s Day weekend. Sweethearts (or teams of two), will race head to head on Monarch’s Freeway racecourse. The race will take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The cost to enter the race is $5 per person, with sign up and registration taking place the day of the race at the Season Pass desk between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Anyone interested in signing up who is not a season pass holder will also be asked to sign a waiver.
For the race, each team member will take two runs through the racecourse; with one run on the blue course and one run on the red course. Monarch Mountain officials say that advanced skill levels are not required: all ages and ability levels are welcome to race as Sweethearts. Skiers and snowboards can be sweethearts too, with the race allowing for any combination of skier, snowboarders and ages.
Monarch Mountain’s Event Coordinator Kathryn Wadsworth announced the event saying, “We’ll have lots of sweet prizes for the fastest team, oldest and youngest couple, and best dressed sweethearts”
“This is a fun race for all abilities,” continued Wadsworth,. “Each competitor will take one run on each of the head to head courses. The combined times from each team member will determine the fastest Sweethearts.”
EDITOR’S NOTE: Monarch Mountain does not provide lift tickets, passes, or rentals for Monarch Mountain events. Season passes and day lift tickets must be purchased at the individual’s expense for participation. Other activities may also require some cost to the individual for participation.
