With the expected winter storm rolling in this week, finally providing (we hope) a good snowpack, Monarch Mountain Ski Resort has temporarily closed uphill access to those who have been heading up to hike and “pirate ski”, until the mountain officially opens for skiing.

Groomers and other heavy machinery will be moving around the mountain, which will pose a safety hazard for anyone traveling uphill as well as Monarch staff.

Monarch staffer Josh, posted an Instagram celebrating the weather development saying “If this storm produces, our staff will be working seven days a week to get the mountain ready to open.”

Perhaps snow dances to snow gods should proceed even as the wind is rising and the storms inch closer. Ski enthusiasts and water monitoring folk would like at least two feet of the white stuff.
