Monarch Mountain ski season may be coming to an end, but Monarch knows how to end one season and enter another with style. It will be hosting its signature Kayaks on Snow and Gunbarrel Challenge this year as spring makes its first appearance.

Kayaks on Snow – April 16

For those who can’t wait to hit the rapids this summer, Kayaks on Snow features a head-to-head race down a specially-designed course with berms, banks, and bumps, ending in an icy pond. Costumes are encouraged.

All competitors are required to sign a waiver and supply their own kayak, PFD (personal flotation device), helmet, and carabiner. Competitors and kayaks will be pulled back uphill by a snowcat with towlines connected with a carabiner.

The entry fee is $40, and the day-of registration will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The race will start at 11:00 a.m. This event is for experienced kayakers only, and competitors must be 18 years or older.

Gunbarrel Challenge – April 17

To celebrate Monarch’s Closing Day, folks who can’t get enough of the slopes can register for the Gunbarrel Challenge. Skiers and boarders will run or skin up to the top of Gunbarrel, then race on skis or snowboard back down to the bottom.

Registration will be open on April 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Guest Service Desk, and the challenge will start at 1:00 p.m.
