Atmos Energy works to restore natural gas service in Salida and Poncha Springs.

A press release from Atmos Energy indicates crews are working to restore natural gas service to approximately 2,500 homes and businesses throughout Salida and Poncha Springs due to repairs on a gas supplier’s pipeline.

Jennifer Altieri, Atmos Energy director of public affairs, said, “Atmos Energy crews are currently shutting down the natural gas system in the affected areas. This process will last throughout the daytime and evening hours and affected customers will not have gas service during this time.

“Beginning Wednesday, April 11, trained technicians will begin restoring service to customers. Due to the amount of homes and businesses affected by this outage, this process may take several days.”

The press release notes that Atmos Energy has deployed crews from across the region and surrounding states to ensure the restoration process is conducted safely and efficiently. “Please be aware that we will need to access natural gas meters throughout this process.”

Anyone experiencing an emergency situation and needing immediate assistance is advised to call the Atmos Energy emergency line at 1-866-322-8667.

In order to restore gas service to local residents, an Atmos Energy technician will need to enter each affected home. A resident 18 years of age or older will need to be present.

If no one is home at a residence, technicians will leave a door tag with instructions for contacting Atmos to restore service. Atmos customers can also contact the customer contact center at 1-888-286-6700 to schedule an appointment.

“We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience.”
