Nomination petitions for the city council, city treasurer and mayor positions are available today, Aug. 6. The petitions are for the Nov. 5, regular municipal elections.

According to the City of Salida, individuals interested in running for office can pick up nomination petitions from the Deputy City Clerk at Salida City Hall, 448 E 1st St., Suite 112. Nomination petitions are due back at city hall by  4 p.m. Aug. 26.

Each petition needs a minimum of 25 signatures. Signees must be a registered elector residing within the city limits. Registered electors may not sign more than one petition for each of the separate offices to be filled. However, an elector may sign a nomination petition for each office to be filled from his or her ward and for each office to be filled by election at-large.

The 2019 City of Salida Regular Municipal Election ballot will list the mayor position for a two-year term; three (3) city council positions (Ward 1, Ward 2 and Ward 3) for a four (4) year term each; and the city treasurer position for the remaining portion of the current term (until 2021).

Every registered elector, 18 years of age or older on the date of the election, is eligible to be a candidate and hold office if s/he has resided in the municipality and council ward for at least 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of the election.

In case of annexation, any person who has resided within the territory annexed for the prescribed 12 consecutive months shall be deemed to have met residency requirements.
