Monarch Mountain and Salida Recreation will host an Open Skate Jam Competition at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 9 in Centennial Park at the new skateboard park.

The skateboard-only competition will consist of a three-minute group warm-up per heat, 30-second intro run per athlete, and a five-minute group open jam per heat. Athletes will compete in age groups of Under 18 Male and Female, ages seven and under, eight to 12, 13 to 14, and 15 to 17. Athletes will be judged on their style and tricks. Helmets and pads are required.

In addition, Monarch Mountain will be on-site during the competition to provide information on all their winter ski and snowboard educational programs.

Monarch Event Director Kathryn Wadsworth explained, “Monarch is excited to partner with Salida Recreation to host the first youth skateboard competition in the new skateboard park. We encourage all levels of skateboarders to participate, and everyone is welcome to come to the competition and cheer on these young athletes.”
