The Pike and San Isabel National Forest supervisor have issued an immediate closure order for the Rainbow Trail Decker Fire area. The order was issued by Forest and Grasslands Supervisor Diane Trujillo, who oversees both the Pike and the San Isabel National Forests.

The closure area includes portions of the CR 101 and CR 101A roads on National Forest lands and south of CR 108. The prohibition includes entering any of the restricted areas, including forestland, roads and trails, by civilian, non-fire-fighting personnel.

The stated purpose is to protect natural resources and public safety due to the continuing activity on the Decker Fire.

The Decker Fire is divided into two Branches:

Branch I (on the northeast side by Salida) and Branch II (on the southwest side the San Luis Valley). Then subdivided into five divisions.

Branch I - Salida

  • Division T (northeast side by Wellsville)
  • Division R (north side by Salida)
  • Division W (southeast side by Howard)

Branch II - San Luis Valley

  • Division A (west side by Poncha Pass)
  • Division X (south side by Alder)
