The Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center Foundation recently announced Finley Petit of Salida is the 2020 recipient of the Dr. William G. Mehos Scholarship. Petit was awarded $1,250. Petit will attend the University of Colorado in Boulder and plans to earn a degree in Biochemistry with a future in scientific research for gene therapy.

Prerequisites of the scholarship include declaring a major in a healthcare-related field; attending public school within the Salida Hospital District; a narrative explaining why they would like to receive the award; an outline of extracurricular activities; two letters of recommendation; and a copy of the student’s high school transcript.

The Dr. William G. Mehos Scholarship Program began in 2004. All applications are reviewed by a selection committee and scored on pre-established criteria.

The HRRMC Foundation provides the hospital with financial support to facilitate innovative programs and provide state-of-the-art healthcare services to the Salida Hospital District.
