Work is progressing on the next addition to the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) campus in Salida; a new structure which will house the Rocky Mountain Eye Center of Salida.

Rocky Mountain Eye Center Executive Director Scott Wilson told Ark Valley Voice they are hopeful the construction phase on the 3,900 square-foot building will be completed by December or January, depending on weather conditions. March 1, 2021 is targeted as the clinic opening date.

Wilson said Colarelli Construction of Colorado Springs won the bid as general contractor. Colarelli was also the contractor on the Outpatient Pavilion for HRRMC that opened just over a year ago.

Wilson said it will be satisfying to be part of the HRRMC campus as part of a regional health care environment, especially with the growing demand for eye health care services.

“We’ll be providing the same services in a better environment and with more space for everything,” he said.

He said they plan to add a few more staff members in the building, with much more space than their present facility. He added that a state-of-the-art building is also important to attracting doctors to the clinic with eye care specialties, a service expansion that will be important for Chaffee County residents.
