As the Holiday season draws near, the Salida Business Alliance (SBA) celebrates this time with Holiday Fest 2020. SBA has planned three events over the course of the month to raise the community’s holiday spirits in fun and safe ways.

SBA has set up a scavenger hunt around Salida to allow the community a safe, socially distant activity. Community members are encouraged to look for letters in the windows of businesses across the city. There are 15 letters which spell out “Holiday Fest 2020.” Most businesses are downtown but there are some out on U.S. Hwy 50 as well. Participants fill out a form, available here, by putting the name of the business next to the letter they see in the window.

Completed sheets must be dropped off at Su Casa located at 300 F Street in Salida by 5:00 p.m. on December 18 to be entered into the drawing. The 15 winners will be randomly selected on December 23. Local businesses that are participating have donated items for the drawing. Participants are encouraged to head to Salida Business Alliance’s Facebook or Instagram for clues.

SBA president, Angel Rowell said, “the scavenger hunt is open to everybody, even if your business is participating in it you should still go have fun and do it.”

Spread some cheer with SBA’s business and home decoration contest. To join the contest, simply decorate your business’s window display or your home and tag #salidaholidayfest by December 18 to be entered to win. The top five homes and businesses will be given prizes.

If you do not have a social media account, simply email your photos to sbasalida@gmail.com and they will post it for you.

Social distancing may be the new standard, but this doesn’t mean Santa isn’t coming to town. Children can write a Letter to Santa which can be picked up and dropped off at the Mountain Mail, located at 125 East Second St. or Kaleidoscope Toys at 116 F St. in Salida.

You can also download the Holiday Wish List here. Both locations are contact-free, pickup and drop-off.

Santa will make his YouTube debut on December 18 where he will read “Twas The Night Before Christmas” along with the letters he receives. Letters must be received by December 12 if you wish for Santa to read them in the video.
