Following a 5:00 p.m. work session, the Salida City Council will meet at the Touber Building, 448 East First Street in regular session beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21. The complete agenda and packet are here and instructions for participating “virtually” are at the end of this article.

With a relatively light agenda for a change, two action items will follow the Consent Agenda and Citizen Comment.  The first concerns Ordinance 2022-09 which will be a final reading and public hearing, updating Chapter 2, Article XVII of the Municipal Code to bolster the city’s ability to respond to emergency situations.

Resolution 2022-28 follows and if approved, adopts the City of Salida Historic Survey Plan. The effort began in March, 2020 when the city received a $25,000 Certified Local Government (CLG) grant from History Colorado. Long-time residents will recall that previous historic surveys targeted specific neighborhoods; the new grant would encompass the entire city and help with long range planning and preservation efforts.

In May, 2021, the Historic Preservation Commission selected Felsburg, Holt & Ullevig (FHU) and Kristi Miniello (Miniello Consulting) for the project. After multiple Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) meetings and with feedback from the HPC being incorporated, the draft plan was finalized by the HPC on May 11, 2022.

The Historic Preservation Commission held a public hearing on May 26th, 2022 on the final Salida Historic Survey Plan and voted unanimously to recommend City Council adopt the plan as presented (included here as pages 28-258 of the packet). With Salida being the largest Historic District in the state, the extensive work now completed is an invaluable reference tool for staff, history buffs and residents alike.  The Plan contains historic photos, drawings and records of individual properties, together with references to the residents who dwelled there.

Rounding out the agenda for this meeting, Council Members and the mayor will present their reports.  The Treasurer’s report will then highlight the latest sales tax collections and City Attorney and Staff reports will conclude the session.
