Beginning at 6:00 p.m. on December 20, the Salida City Council will host its final work session of the month.  A presentation will be given on the recent School Resource Officer (SRO) Student Survey. Salida High School (SHS) students and their advisors periodically provide input to Salida City Council on issues affecting youth and the student body.  Given the independent assessment provided last week to the city surrounding the September 23, 2021 lockdown/lockout incident at SHS, hearing another point of view from those most affected is particularly timely.

In a joint session with the Planning Commission, a conceptual review will be held for the proposed 505 Oak Street Planned Development and Major Subdivision. Located on 2.11 acres, the initial proposal is for five duplex lots with a total of 10 individual units and one larger lot to accommodate eight apartment buildings with a total of 32 units.

There will be 16 two-bedroom apartment units and 16 one-bedroom apartment units.  The site is within the Hwy 291 Established Commercial Overlay, fronting the Hwy 291/Oak Street eastern gateway to the city, opposite from Chilcott Street and would add a significant number of housing units in a close-in location.

Applicants Kent Townsend and John Diesslin will be requesting deviations to the standards of the Commercial (C-1) zone district in two areas: maximum density and minimum lot frontage.  The Planned Development is required due to the proposal to front all lots off of the private road and the request to increase density by 14 percent.  After this conceptual review, the application would be forwarded to city departments and agencies for their input and review.

The work session will be offered virtually via GoToMeeting.  Please register here to observe the City Council Work Session. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
