The Salida City Council (SCC) and the Planning Commission (PC) will have another joint work session, scheduled for tonight, Monday August 14 in Council Chambers at the Touber Building, 448 E. First Street.

Its purpose: to address the first item on the work session. a conceptual review of a major subdivision and proposed planned development for a two-acre parcel of land owned by Rob and Sarah Gartzman at 6907 CR 105.

The Gartzmans are requesting annexation of the parcel to the city.

In addition, the Gartzmans are requesting a zoning designation change for the property to R-3, or High-Density Residential. If approved, the parcel could accommodate a mix of single-family lots, three duplex lots, three multi-family complexes, as well as a possible laundromat, for a possible total of 69 new dwelling units when built out.

The Gartzmans, local restaurateurs who own both Sweeties and the Baker and the Biker in downtown Salida, say they have gotten into the development business partly in response to the lack of affordable housing for their workforce.

Also on the agenda for the work session is more discussion of the city’s Future Land Use Map (FLUM) and an update from Chaffee Housing Authority Executive Director Ashley Kappel.

The City Council will participate in a discussion of improvements to the Scout Wave river feature, prompted by public comment at the July 18 SCC meeting about potential hazards to boaters floating that section of the river.
