The Salida City Council will host their regular meeting beginning at at 6 p.m. June 16, virtually via GoToMeeting due to concerns surrounding COVID-19 and health regulations currently in place.

Included in the consent agenda is the approval of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the City of Salida Department of Recreation and the Boys and Girls Club of Chaffee County. This approval would allow for more outdoor activities and children to recreate safely during the pandemic. The Boys and Girls Club also needs a consistent outside space to allow member to engage safely. The Parks and Recreation Department has agreed to provide Chisholm Park green space, outside pavilion and play structures free of charge for the length of one year.

Also, on the agenda is a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Salida and FIBArk that would allow creative alternatives for races and other events that were developed and finally approved by Public Health on June 10. The Parks and Recreation Department will offer up to $5,000 to print t-shirts and paraphernalia for resale and distribution. Revenue from shirt sales and race registration will be split 75 percent to FIBArk and 25 percent to the City.

A proclamation that makes June 2020 the City of Salida’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) Pride Month is also on the agenda. The proclamation encourages all Salida residents to eliminate prejudice wherever it exists and to honor our great diversity by celebrating our LGBTQ friends and neighbors.

New business/action items include a resolution of support for funding and development of the Chipeta Mountain Heritage park.
