Starting at 6:00 p.m. on September 20, the Salida City Council will host their work session where they will hear a presentation on the long-range, financial plan. Ehlers, Inc., the City’s Municipal Advisor has worked with staff to update the ten-year Financial Management Plan (FMP). The purpose of the FMP is to create a forward-looking and strategic financial plan for the City and its major funds, develop an inventory of future capital needs, and determine existing financial resources and plan for funding options to accomplish the short and long-term capital needs of the City. This is an update to the plan developed last year.

Bruce Kimmel, the licensed Municipal Advisor, together with Jeanne Vogt, assigned to the city from the Ehlers office will present the FMP and answer any questions. The plan serves as a flexible road map to achieving the City’s priorities so that any suggested changes can be easily incorporated. The Finance Committee has reviewed the plan and feels that it represents the financial vision well as it stands now.

Council will also hear an update from Colorado Mountain College. Other items on the agenda include the 2021 Whitewater Park Maintenance and Improvements Report. The City of Salida was founded on the Arkansas River as a railroad town, and the river remains the defining natural feature.

The Arkansas is a source of economic vitality and a place where our community gathers. The Whitewater Park has reshaped Salida’s downtown business district over the past 20 years. Future improvements will ensure that the park continues to adapt to changing use patterns and add exciting new features that continue to attract both visitors and residents.

City Council meetings continue to allow in-person attendance, primarily for purposes of conducting public hearings. The city still requests that those wishing to testify should plan to do so via the GoToWebinar platform or by email or letter.

Anyone who is unvaccinated and who wants to provide testimony must wear a face mask and remain at least six feet away from others both inside and outside of the Council Chambers.
