The Salida City Council is slated to discuss the performance review of Salida City Administrator Drew Nelson, as well as if he will continue to work for the city, at their 6 p.m. meeting tonight, Tuesday, May 7.
Further, the agenda packet lists three options for Nelson’s future which include termination, salary increase and severance compensation. The performance review was performed by a third party group.
If Nelson were to be discharged before his six month anniversary in his position, “no severance pay is due,” according to the packet.
Nelson’s contract states that around April of 2019 a performance review would also consider the increase of his salary to $125,000. It further states that the council must discuss and vote on whether to give Nelson the increase, which would be “merit-based,” according to the agenda packet for the May 7 meeting.
The city administrator’s salary is currently $115,000, according to the packet.
The packet describes three options currently surrounding Nelson:
- Terminate Nelson, with no severance pay due.
- Nelson continues as city administrator, no longer in a probation period, and therefore eligible for severance compensation if terminated under improper circumstances.
- Increase Nelson’s salary from $115,000 to $125,000.
