Due to the holiday weekend, City Council will host a work session and regular meeting, back-to-back on June 1. The work session will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the regular meeting will follow at 6:00 p.m.  The first meeting agenda includes a joint work session with the planning commission regarding the proposed McGovern Campground major impact review.

The prospective applicants, Mark and Michael McGovern have submitted conceptual development plans for a campground with 17 pads on a .78-acre site located at 1-3 Hillside Drive. The parcel is zoned Industrial (I). The applicants have indicated an interest in working with the City to improve the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the area bordering their property and the “Frontside” trailhead in the Salida Mountain Trails system.

Council and the Planning Commission will also discuss the planned development of residences at the proposed Salida Bottling Company project site.

The prospective applicants, Salida Bottling Co., LLC, have submitted conceptual development plans for a Planned Development overlay on .67 acres located at 323 West First Street to accommodate 16 residential units, including one mixed-use unit along First Street.

The parcel is primarily zoned Commercial (C-1), with a sliver of Industrial along the southern edge, and it has a Hwy. 291 “established residential” overlay. The site is undeveloped, adjacent to the Monarch Spur Trail, and used primarily for public parking. It is currently leased to the City of Salida on a month-to-month basis, and the lease requires 60 days notice prior to the lease being terminated.

During the regular meeting that follows, council, sitting as the Liquor Licensing Authority will host a public hearing for approval of a new restaurant and liquor license for Sushi Thai Salida at 123 West First Street.

Unfinished business includes the second reading and public hearing of Ordinance 2021-08 which would approve a major impact review for a .46-acre parcel located at the southwest corner of Highway 291 and West Third Street.

This parcel is currently zoned commercial with a Highway 291 “established commercial” overlay. It would place a planned development overlay on the property and approve the plan for a four-building mixed-use development known as Jane’s Place.

New business and action items include Ordinance 2021-09 which would rezone 900 J Street from commercial to manufactured housing – residential. This will be the first reading and if passed, the council may set a second reading and public hearing.

City Council meetings continue to allow in-person attendance primarily for purposes of conducting public hearings. The city still requests that those wishing to testify please do so via the GoToWebinar platform or by email or letter.  Anyone who is unvaccinated who wants to provide testimony must wear a mask and remain at least six feet away from others both inside and outside of the Council Chambers.
