There is one item on the agenda for the Salida City Council work session this evening: a presentation of the ADA Transition Plan, a process that began in the late summer of 2022.

The ADA, or the Americans With Disabilities Act, is intended to prevent discrimination against people with disabilities. It mandates that businesses, governments, and nonprofit organizations should be taking steps to insure that their facilities and policies provide accessibility to their services.

Title II of the Act covers the steps that state and local governments should follow.

Representatives from the engineering firm Alfred Benesch and Company will be presenting the City’s ADA Transition Plan. The Transition Plan’s goals as outlined are to:

  • Comply with Title II
  • Document Existing Conditions
  • Establish a Grievance Policy
  • Establish Standards to Improve Accessibility
  • Identify Project Strategies to Improve Accessibility
