The Salida City Council will hold a work session to discuss diversity, inclusion, and anti-bias training opportunities beginning at at 6 p.m. July 20.

Due to recent regional, national and international discussions on policing, the city was contacted by Wendell Pryor of the Chaffee County Economic Development Corporation and the Chaffee County Community Foundation about providing training to elected officials and staff on diversity, inclusion and anti-bias training.

Staff believes it is appropriate to work with City Council to provide Councilmembers with training first before discussing proposed changes to how the Salida government, policing specifically, functions.

Councilmembers will discuss the potential training opportunities that City Council would like to engage in with expectations that it will lead to better governance at all levels.

City Council will also discuss whether to change the time the lights at Alpine Park basketball courts are allowed to stay on from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

There will be a discussion on the Hutchinson Homestead classroom addition. The Council will also be presented with the Methodist Front project plan as well as an update on the multi-jurisdictional housing authority.
